Zero Film Festival’s New York Premier with Special Performance by Kaki King @ Galapagos Art Space

Zero Film Festival –the first festival exclusive to self-financed filmmakers- has it’s New York Premiere August 20th at Galapagos Art Space, in build-up to a weeklong festival in December.

Contributing filmmakers include: Guy Ben-Ner, Alia Raza, Victor Varnado, Rodrigo Lopresti, Sunset Television, Peru Ana Ana Peru, Jesse Gelaznik, Elaine Lima, Bianca Ahmadi, Lovisa Inserra, “Mike Smith”, Zach Clark, Mary Wall Bronstein, Jacquelyn Gallo, Lena Dunham, Timothy Saccenti, Team Zero and MORE.

Danish Pianist...

Søren Kjærgaard, Andrew Cyrille & Ben Street, "optics" @ The Issue Room Project

Danish Pianist, Søren Kjærgaard performs his "There is a somnambulant quality to Optics, a kind of waking-life feeling. Søren Kjærgaard, a 29-year-old Danish pianist, recruited bassist Ben Street and the phenomenal drummer Andrew Cyrille for this trio. Cyrille, known for his work with the likes of Cecil Taylor and Oliver Lake, is the senior member, and much of what happens revolves around him. The 14-minute title track that opens the CD demands patience from its musicians. Kjærgaard plots out deep, serious chords, employing dramatic pauses as the rumble of mallets on skins establishes the tone. Street picks deliberately on the upper neck of his bass as Kjærgaard then lays down an ascending series of minor chords. A quiet snare roll, a repeated three-key phrase played lightly--this is minimalist bliss. On "Cyrille Surreal," icy, detached chords play against a reluctant swing rhythm, but things evolve, as they always do, and rowdiness finally replaces inertia. - Jazz Times

The Baths are newly remodeled & sparkling clean, with every steam room and sauna ready to please, plus a few hand-picked professionals on hand for the optional platzas and massages. There are three levels and multiple rooms to the baths: Russian, Turkish and Swedish steam rooms, jacuzzi and cold plunge pool; the poolside lounge and the dance floor; hookah & chillout lounges upstairs; plus the rooftop smoking deck.

Inside, The Sway Machinery, with members of Balkan Beat Box, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire and Antibalas, will get you sweating faster than the saunas with the sounds of Malian guitars, Saharan beats, Afro-pop horns and the Blues (playing two sets, at 10pm and 12am). It's going to be a great show!

Cost Ranges: Regular ticket is $55, and includes full admission to the baths (9pm-2am) with access to a shared locker, plus the vodka open bar. Discounted ticket is $35, and includes full admission to the baths (11pm-2am) but no locker. VIP ticket is $95, and includes early admission (7pm-2am) with access to your own locker, the vodka open bar, plus an authentic multi-course Russian dinner at 8pm (with the band!).
